Double Diamond Fold How-To

I received a few requests to show how to make the double diamond fold card. I don't have a setup to video the process, so I'll try to explain the best I can in writing. If you haven't seen the card I posted earlier this week, you can see it here. I think I like today's version better, only because I LOVE the Grateful Heart papers and colors!

I used the Grateful Heart Paper Packet, Grateful Heart Cardmaking Stamp Set, and new Thin Cuts to put the card together.

Check out that butterfly! Fellow consultant, Ellen Jarvis, shared a tutorial with us on how to color it with our ShinHan Touch Twin Markers. I used our new Black Shimmer Brush to add sparkle to all of the black areas.

Let's get to how to make the card base, shall we?

You might need to click on the picture to enlarge it so you can see the lines. Dash lines are scored. Solid lines are cut.
1. Start with a base cut at 5" x 12"

2. With the 12" side at the top, score at 3", 4 1/2", 7 1/2", and 9". Make a pencil mark on the top and bottom of the base at 1 1/2" and 10 1/2"

3. On the 5" sides, make a pencil mark at 2 1/2". Cut at a diagonal from the 2 1/2" pencil mark to each of the 1 1/2" pencil marks (left side of card base). Repeat on the right side of the card base, cutting diagonally from the 2 1/2" pencil mark to the 10 1/2" pencil marks. This should create two points on each end of the base.

4. With the 12" side at the top, score diagonally (top to bottom, and bottom to top) from each 1 1/2" pencil mark to each 4 1/2" score line (left side of base). This should form an "X". Repeat on the right side of the base, scoring diagonally from each 10 1/2" pencil mark to each 7 1/2" score line.

The card base should look like this:

Now you are ready to add patterned papers (B&T) to the base.

Large Diamond Layers (cut 2): 2 3/4" X 4 3/4". Mark center of each side and cut into diamond shape. You may need to tweak the angles a bit to match the angles on the base.

Small Triangles (cut 4): 1 1/4" x 2 1/8". Cut two of them diagonally from the top right corner to the bottom left corner. Cut the remaining two diagonally from the top left corner to the bottom right corner. (This is especially important with paper that has a directional pattern).

Center: Mat cut 2 3/4" x 4 3/4" and B&T cut 2 5/8" x 4 5/8".

I recommend adding the B&T papers before folding the card base. It's easier to align and center them.

Folding the base:
Mountain fold at the 3", 4 1/2", 7 1/2", and 9" score lines.
Valley fold the diagonal "X" lines.
Hold the base with the left point at the top. Gently push the 3" mountain fold toward you (the diagonal valley folds should collapse the side of the card into a diamond shape). Then fold back on the 4 1/3" mountain fold. Burnish all of the fold lines. Repeat on the right side of the base.

I hope you give this fun fold a try! If you do, please share it with us at the Three Amigos Blog Hop Challenge by the end of this month!

Three Amigos Blog Hop Challenge #18

Welcome to the Three Amigos Blog Hop. We are three friends with a love for stamping and scrapping, and would like to share our creative ideas with you on the 3rd of each month. There are only three stops on this hop, so it will only take a few minutes to hop through. When you finish hopping, be sure to check out the Three Amigos Blog Hop Challenge!

This month we are making projects featuring Fun Folds. I put together a double diamond fold card using some awesome new products in the 2018 Holiday Expressions Idea Book. The finished card fits in a 6x6 envelope.

This card highlights three B&T designs from the new Boutique Paper Packet. I cut two tags using our new Thin Cuts- Fancy Tags set, and added "stitch lines" to the bottom of the Glacier tag using the new Thin Cuts- Decorative Borders set. The top tag is stamped with images from the Bunches of Love stamp set using Glacier and Peach inks. New Silver Glitter Gems, Mink Twine, and Silver Embellishing Thread finish off the design.

The fun folds act as an easel to hold the card upright. A personal message can be added to the back of the card.

Thanks for hopping by today! Hop over to Lisa's Blog and Donna's Blog to see what they created for you, then over to the Three Amigos Blog Hop Challenge. We hope you play along!
